Re: Origin of Virginia Durvins
Mary Vaughan Gibson 1/10/03
I have some information researched by my brother many years ago. For Ann E.L. Durvin, I see: age 18,
Parents John W. and Mary C. Durvin,
married Robert G. Smith age 24
of Hanover Co., mother Elizabeth Smith
on 8 Aug 1859
Louisa Co. Marriage Register 1, pge 482 and 510.
For Ann Elizabeth Durvin, I have: father, Wm. Durvin
married John F. Gibson "at least 21...", father William Gibson
on 28 Feb 1844
Louisa Co. Marriage Register 1, page 310
For Wm. A. Durvin:
1860 Census URD HH63 (HH is household)
Wm. A. Durvin age 23?
Mary L. 26
Georgia E. 4
Mary E. 2
This must be another Mary, but I have seen some odd conflicts related to the census of 1860 and the census of 1870. I suspect they were not done in the year, but over the 10 years. It was a big job in those times.
I also have Mary E. Durvin in the 1870 Louisa Co. Census, HH32 N.D. age 14, father Wm. A., age 44. He aged 21 years in 10 years. I know things were tough after the war, but wow.
This Mary married Thos. D. Strong on 25 Feb 1875 at age 18. That one works. It looks like Mary Elizabeth was a common name.
