Hi, Susan.I've done a lot of research on the Dusenbury family, but have not run across the Bortz name in any of it.Our Dusenbury ancestor (Hendrick Hendricksen) came from Doesburg, Holland, and settled in New Amsterdam. The Dusenbury name, in all its many variations, came from the town of Doesburg. The family lived inNew York and its surrounding areas for many years before scattering out all over the country. My 4-great grandfather, Samuel Dusenbury, was from Peekskill, New York.During the War of 1812, he served on the U.S.S. Constitution as a Surgeons Mate.He was discharged from service in Charleston, SC, where he met my 4-great grandmother, Mary Ellis.I'm not sure when he moved from New York permanently or where he moved to at that time, but he lived in North Carolina for many years before moving to South Carolina, my home state.
I think it's great that you found "Return to Dusenbury" written on the back of the plate. Wherever they were, your family and minemust have been friends. They had probably been to a pot luck dinner--I always put my name on the dishes I take to such events. Family research is so fascinating. You just never know what you'll come up with next.I had always been told that my family came from the Pennsylvania Dutch, but research proved that to be wrong.
Wish I could help you more, but don't really know the answer you need. However, you made my day by finding the Dusenbury pie plate!Wish I could have had a slice ofthat Pumpkin Pie.Have a great New Year.
Mary Ann (Dusenbury) Carlson
