Charles and John Bowdish (or Bowditch) Dutcher are the sons of David Dutcher (b. abt 1798 acc. to the 1850 census) and Amy Bowdish (b. abt 1800 acc. to the 1850, 1860, 1870 censuses). They also had children Albro (1826-1862), Asa (b. 1828), Jane Ann (1831-1893), Julia (b. 1836), Dewitt C (1839-1862), in addition to Charles and John B Dutcher.
David Dutcher is the son of Matthew Dutcher, baptized in Athens, Greene Co., New York on 2 Mar 1739, but probably born earlier that year or the year before in Salisbury, Litchfield Co., CT, where his parents Henricus (Henry) and Helena (Van Deusen?) Dutcher were living.Matthew probably married twice, the name of his supposed first wife is unknown, but perhaps had sons Dirck as well as other children by her (this is my speculation anyway).Dirck appears in the 1810 & 1830 census records of Dover, Dutchess Co. NY.Matthew married secondly Sarah Albro, born about 1762, and I have found her in the 1810 , 1820 and 1850 census records in Dover. In 1850 she is living with her son David, his wife Amy, and your Charles and John B Dutcher.Matthew also had by Sarah: Martha, Clarissa, and Phebe, as well as other children not identified but who appear in the census records of 1790, 1800 and 1810 for Matthew and Sarah. Matthew died before 1810, when his widow Sarah appears in the census.David died before 1860, when Amy appears without him.
My main sources for this information are the census records, Griffin's book The Dutcher Family; the volumes "Settlers of the Beekman Patent," which contains an extensive Dutcher genealogy in Volume 4. I have more information on them and the entire Dutcher family on my tree on ancestry.com (Burrowes & Lee family tree)
