Wow, nobody has replied to this until now? Where have I been all year?
My Zachariah Dutton is descended from the Duttons of Charles County. He was born there ca. 1750 and died in Granville County, North Carolina in 1829. Six of his sons migrated to North Alabama. We believe him to a descendant of Thomas Dutton (apparently the immigrant ancestor to Charles County) who married Elizabeth Hill, through his son Matthew Dutton who married Judith O'Caine (daughter of Gerrard O'Caine; Zachariah named a son Gerrard), though how he is descended has been the topic of much fruitless speculation.
"Extended relations"? I guess you could say that. Zachariah's sons settled in Morgan and Lawrence counties, Alabama, adjacent to Stephen Penn (1760-1839), also of Charles County. There are a lot of other facts to suggest a close connection between the two. I at one time speculated that Zachariah Dutton married a Penn, the sister of Stephen, but there is no direct evidence to support that.
There were a number of other Penn connections early on in Charles County, but no Penn women that I know of who married into the Dutton family. I'm not familiar with any of the other names.
There's been a lot of posting recently to the MDCHARLE list and my own DUTTON-ZACHARIAH list on RootsWeb about Dutton family of Charles County and the Penn connection. Also, I maintain a website on my Zachariah's family, and have an overview of our Dutton-Penn connection.
