I am widening my search for the Peter Dutton mentioned in my previous post.
Family tradition states that Peter was (or was descended from) a 2nd son in the direct Sherborne line.
Working back from Anne who married James Naper producing James Naper Lenox [Dutton] - later 1st Baron Sherborne, I am trying to complete my picture of the immediate surrounding family, in the hope that the link to Peter and Sarah (his sister) will leap out at me. So far I have the following.
James Lenox Naper [Dutton] Anne (m James Naper) & John Dutton (?-1743) Ralph 1,William,'several other sons' Dutton Ralph 2 Dutton
James is Anne's Son, John's nephew, Ralph 1's Grandson, William's Great Nephew etc...
I am particularly interested in the 'several other sons' who apparently left the country. Probably because they were on the royalist side during the civil war.
www.familysearch.org lists other children, but looking back through the tree, is so confused that I would not dare use what they give me. Has anyone any other sources which might shed light on this family.
Peter's sister married a man from Guernsey (Le Couteur renaming himself Courtier), possibly before he came to England. If the family was in exile this would fit nicely. So it looks like I am looking for one of these sons who went abroad (probably France or the Channel Islands) and produced Peter and Sarah Dutton, maybe other children as well.
Thhis would account for family legend and finally reconnect our tree with the Duttons of Sherborne.
I would be very grateful indeed to anyone who can help me find this missing generation and reconnect Peter to his family.
