Willis Harris seems to have died 1854 in Granville Co.
His last census enumeration was the 1850 where his household is found in the Henderson District and he is 63, a farmer.
Also living in the household in 1850 are:
Lucilla, 39
Sally, 24
Snethan, 15
George, 12
Sarah, 57
I find it curious that Sarah, 57, is listed last. Normally the wife is listed immediately following her husband, so I can only "assume" this Sarah, 57, is Sarah Duty Harris.
Granville Co estate records show no sign of a will left by Willis. However, there is an administrator bond from November Court, 1854, showing Edward W. Harris as administrator (witnesses were Thomas D. Harris and H.H. Rowland.) Feb 1855 court has the list ofauthorized sales of various estate items. A.C. (presumably Adam Clark) Harris bought Willis' shotgun. So these records give us a year of death, although not the month/day.
I've been trying to figure out where Willis and Sarah are buried, but no luck yet.
Willis and Sarah were married 24 May 1808 in Granville Co.
Feb Court 1811 records a notice dated 11 Nov 1809 stating Willis Harris has received of Jabez Duty, guardian of Sarah Duty, "now my wife," full settlement of estate. Witness: Thos Craft. I think I learned somewhere that Jabez was Sarah's older brother???
I don't think I have info regarding Sarah Duty Harris' death, but apparently it was before 1877 as she is listed as deceased on the marriage record of son SPJ to Maria Duty.
