Yes, with so many Duvalls, a little variety was in order.
I found that untill about 1830, the custom of naming after uncles & aunts or grandparents resulted in a confusing number of cousins (sometimes in the same area) having the same name. After 1830; George Washington Lefever or Daniel Murry Lefever, Jacob Duvall Lefever, for instance. Assigning two given names was more common then and must have helped in keeping kin straight. But my famly until 1830 used an official name and another the family used; Ella May might be "Mabel" or "Elsie" and Floyd Frank might be "Frank".
Before 1830 my Lefever clan made much use of biblical names and I can trace them back through maternal grandparents, etc. Daniel for Daniel Ferree, John Daniel for John Daniel,Solomon, Sarah, Catherine, David, Elias, Christiana, Christian, Lydia & Jacob.
Thanks, for your insight. Morris
