Not sure if Miles A. Duvall is a son of John Miles Duvall and Margaret Ricketts Fink (?Finch). As Joe Duvall wrote in his message, the 1840 Bullitt Co., KY census shows seven boys age 15 and under for this couple. James, Thomas and Julian are listed by name in the 1850 Bullitt Co., KY census with their parents. I am trying to determine if our direct descendent, William Manson DuVall, is one of the unnamed sons listed in the 1840 census.
I think, but have no proof yet, that the Jacob Duvall listed in the 1860 Scotland Co., MO census is a brother to our William; and a son of this John Miles Duvall. This Jacob has a son named Miles, age 13 in the 1860 census. This Miles does not show up in the 1870 Scotland Co., MO census with his father and step-mother. William moves his family to Henderson Co., IL before he enters the Union Army in IL in 1862. A Peter Duvall married to Catherine Snellon, both born in KY, is listed in the 1860 census for Henderson Co., IL. It is my belief that this Jacob, Peter and William are 3 of the 4 unnamed sons of John Miles Duvall and Margaret Ricketts Fink.
That leaves 1 of the 4 unnamed sons, still unnamed. At this point, I have no leads for this seventh son. He could be the Miles A. Duvall you are looking for. If he is in the Civil War and from Hardin County, KY, he is about the right age and from about the right place. Since he has both Miles and Duvall in his name, he almost certainly is a descendent of John Miles Duvall and Anne R.P. Tarlton.
I look forward to the possibility of exchanging "Duvall" information with you.
