Hi Janet. Have not talked for some time. Thought I would give you some FYI.
James Monroe Duvall (our gg grandfather) had a cousin named James that was the son of one of James Duvall (b.1802) brother's, named for his uncle it appears. He died from an abdominal wound during the civil war. I have the e-mails from a Civil War buff on the regiment.
Here is the big surprise:
Marylin sent me copies of some documents and among them:
I have a copy of Ambrose (James Monroe's older brother) death certificate from Boyd Cty., KY. His parents are listed as Elizabeth Plummer and James Duvall. Ambrose was born in NC, his mother Elizabeth was born in VA and father James was born in MD! So it appears the reason that we have not been able to find the Duvall's in North Carolina is because Samuel moved his family there after the children were born in Maryland. We have been searching in the right place all along.
I am working on this, as is Ambrose's descendant, our cousin, Amy Hatcher Ryan. You will see her notes posted throughout the forum.
From a book my mom has on Elliott Cty, James was supposed to have died in Carter Cty, so I am about to write for his death certificate and see what we can turn up. There is also evidence in the book that James the elder may have also died in KY, I will check into that too.
