Jeremiah of Bedford Co's dau Mary Wells
If you're familiar with Jeremiah Duvall's 1830 will, either from Bedford Co., PA, or from Harry Wright Newman's book MAREEN DUVALL OF MIDDLE PLANTATION, you'll know that he names this daughter as Mary W. Fenner. The ongoing debate is WHICH Fenner. She is said to have married both John and Stephen (and perhaps she did).
The Fenners in Bedford Co. moved to Highland Co., OH, in the early part of the 1800s.On the 1820 census, there is no adult woman living in Stephen Fenner's household, andthe youngest children are also not there. At the end of that year Stephen marries Mary Ann Brouse Fenner, widow of his brother James. He dies w/o a will in 1822.Stephen has seven children: Jemima, Jeremiah, James S., David, Rachel, Sarah and Mary Wells. There are NO children anywhere else in this enormous family (Stephen had probably eight or nine siblings) named Jeremiah (he was my gr gr gfather).
In Fenner Cemetery no. 2 in Highland Co., OH, on Jeremiah Fenner's land are buried, among others, Jeremiah and his wife, Sarah Dryden; John Fenner, and "Mary, wife of John".This woman is thought to be Mary Wells Duvall.
In Jeremiah Duvall's will he states about his Bible:"I give my part of the famely Bible in my posesion for the use of the bethel Meting Hous".Does anyone familiar with this family know where the Bible page is which lists his children and their birthdates and marriages?
If you're researching this family, you should be aware of the many places where Jeremiah Duvall is referred to.In addition to the Co. history and Harry Wright Newman's book, he appears in books and family histories of the group of people who went to Hopewell Twp. with him from MD, or who settled there shortly afterward. Some names are Foster, Horton, Chaney, Moberly, Fenner. Many of them (most, perhaps) moved on to Highland Co., OH.
Also, very useful to visit is the Pioneer Library in Bedford. It is located at 242 East John Street, Bedford, PA15522.Phone no. is (814) 623-2011.The historian/researcher is Kay Leach, who is very helpful. You'll find there (among other things) a book written by descendants of Jeremiah Duvall's son Asa, which includes a large amount of information about the families of both Asa and his brother John Wesley.
