John & Elizabeth Dyer, 1700's, Frederick Co. VA
Does anybody have any information on the following family of Dyers from Frederick County, Virginia:
*John Dyer, born about 1704, settled in Orange County by 1736 per records of Hite/Fairfax lawsuit, and Dyer purchased 115 acres on Cedar Creek from John Bowman on 28 June 1739 (Tract 13D, Map 8, from Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia, by Cecil O' Dell.); this land is about 1/2 mile southwest of the village of Marlboro on route #268 in Shenandoah County. Dyer sold the tract to George Logmiller on 23 June 1743. Ref. Deed Book 3, p. 278 for 1739 deed, and Deed Book 7, p. 350 for 1743 deed. In 1750, Dyer was living on 100 acres on Duck Run and received a grant of it from Lord Fairfax on 8 January 1752, with citation to Joyner, Vol II, p. 49. This tract is on route # 600 south of Mountain Falls in Frederick County. John Dyer and his wife Elizabeth sold the 100 acres to William Russell for 50 pounds on January 27, 1763 (Frederick County Deed Book 8, p. 218). [Source: ibid., O' Dell, p. 321]
*Elizabeth Dyer to Andrew Campbell Dyer. Deed of gift made on 5 March 1747 (or 1748 under our current system) by Elizabeth to her "beloved son Andrew Campbell Dyer" of Frederick County. The deed showed that the land in question had been owned by "Morgan Bryant and Alexander Ross (who assigned it) to William Robert and by him assigned to William Johnston Teacocks from whose widow the said Elizabeth Dyer purchased the same being the land and plantation on which the said Elizabeth Dyer now lives". [Source: p. 374, Frederick County Deed Book #1.] This is a strange transaction because Elizabeth's husband John is not named in the deed.
Was Elizabeth Dyer's maiden name Campbell?
