Re: Ashley Eason b. ? d. 1874 Al. Ga.?
On 20 July 1828 Chloey Ann Eason md Robert Williams in Butts Co Ga. (they are my 3rd gr grandparents)...Butts Co Marriage records erroneously transpose her name as "Ann C. Eason".The ceremony was performed by Wm Barkley, J.P. Robert had been living off and on in Jasper Co since 1822.He was born in 1790, lived in Wilkes Co Ga, and had been in the 8th US Infantry from 13 June 1812 until discharged on 12 June 1817 (he was Regular Army, not militia).
Whitmell Eason is found on the 1820 Jasper Co census aged 45+ with several family members...among them 5 young males and also 5 females under age 16.
The Minutes of Concord Baptist Church in Jasper Co record several of Robert's family as members between 1816 and 1828...among them Jane Williams - either Robert's mother or step-mother - , Robert's brother Rowland Williams Jr, and Robert's sister Katherine Williams. The records also show that sometime between 1823 and 1828 a Martha Eason was received in this church by letter.
Robert was a veteran, and Choey claimed widow's benefits after his death 10 Sept 1857 in Tallapoosa Co AL.Choey stated on an 1878 deposition in Tallapoosa Co that after their marriage they lived "in Butts Co Ga about two years, one year in Troup, twenty two years in Heard Co Ga, and lived about five years in Tallapoosa Co" (e.g. from ca 1852 until Robert's death in 1857).Robert Williams is on the 1830 Troup Co census and also in this 1830 Troup census was Whitmel Eason age 50-60 with family (only one of the 5 daughters appears to still be in the family - was this Martha b ca 1802 who appears not to have ever married?).Robert and Chloe are on the 1850 Heard Co Ga census with several children - among them my Elizabeth and a younger child also named Martha.
On the 1860 Tallapoosa census (Robert's widow) Clora (sic) A Williams is shown with two daughters...on the 1866 Alabama State census for Tallapoosa, Ashley Eason (50-60) and Martha Eason (60-70) are enumerated only 16 names and 11 names respectively from C. A. (Chloey Eason) Williams (50-60).
Both Ashley and Chloe are still found in Tallapoosa in 1870.By 1880 C A Eason (Chloey) is listed as age 75 (she was born ca 1806 per her 1878 Widow's Pension Declaration)...she lists her POB as Ga while her parents were both born in NC.Not far away also in Daviston on the 1880 census is Ashey's widow Elizabeth and family, along with Ashley's sister Martha Eason age 78.Martha Eason states she was born in NC as were both of her parents.
Well there is a lot of smoke and little fire.I have found no will or deeds of Whitmell Eason of NC & Ga that mentions Chloe, but I feel fairly certain that my Chloe Ann Eason Williams, b ca 1806 in Ga, was a daughter of Whitmell Eason (by the way this Whitmell was not the Whitmel Eason of Talbot Co Ga who was age 30-40 on the 1830 census).
I welcome a response and any comments.
