John Day Perkins Easter, 1830-1912, was a Captain in the Confederate Army, according to this record on Ancestry.com: 'Served as a Captain in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Lists John D. Easter. Under "unit" the entry lists "General and Staff Officers, Corps, Division and Brigade Staffs, Non-com. Staffs and Bands, Enlisted Men, Staff Departmen".Source: Ancestry.com, Civil War Service Records.'
Family oral tradition holds that he served both as a Chaplain and as a medical officer or surgeon, helping to tend wounded soldiers. He lived in the Athens, Georgia area, and his son, Henry Easter, was born there in 1858.
