Searching from before Johann Wilhelm Eckenroth? (1707 or 1709-1757)

After some struggles due to a remarriage, etc. with my grandpa's mom, I've traced her side all the way back to Eastern Pa., found the name change of Eckenroth to Eckenrode for the wife of an Easley (which is also a change from Isele, it appears). I've gotten as far back as Johann Wilhelm Eckenroth.
Has anyone gone further?
It's a bit confusing, as first of all, the info I have shows him born in 1707 in Pfalz, Germany. I've seen a number of other people saying he's from Bad Kreuznach. Now, one may be a town within the other, but the Bad Kreuznach ones say 1709 as his birthday.
All agree he died 4/28/1757 in Lynn, Northampton County, Pennsylvania and that his son Christopher (Stofel) was one of a number of children between he and an Anna Margaretha. And, Chrstopher (1742-1813) and Anna M. Heinrich Webel (1744-1817 - she was his 2nd wife I think) had Elizabeth Eckenrode (1783-1845), among others, who married George MIller and was the mother of the wife of James Easley (1815-1894), an attorney and some official, perhaps Justice of the Peace, at one point in Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, Pa.
Now, the questions?
1. Can anyone go further back on Johann Wilhelm? I believe he came on the Snow Charlotte, from another website about the family, but that's all I have. Like a few others in my tree, can only trace to where they started here, and it's always fun to try to go back further. it's *very* speculative, based only on finding names of parents in searching public trees, but I know some have taken theirs the 1500s in Europe, though I'm unsure how, perhaps family Bibles?
2. What isJohann Wilhelm's wife's maiden name? Margaretha sounds like a somewhat unusual last name, but I have seen it listed as one so I suppose it could be that.
Any help would be appreciated. It's fun just getting back thsi far, though.
