FANNIN COUNTY
Formed Jan. 21, 1854, from Gilmer and Union.Gilmer and Unionwere formed in 1832 from Cherokee lands.It is located on the southern border of NC and TN and borders Union (east), Lumpkin and Gilmer (south) and Murray (west).County seat is Blue Ridge.Records are intact.

No Edmondsons are listed in the 1840 Census in Gilmer or Union.

J.L. Edmondson is listed in Union County. Robert Edmondson is listed in Union County.Hamantha Edmondson is in Union County.Richard is in Union County.All are in the 85th District.See Union County.

An account published in THE HISTORICAL NEWS in 1999, written about1954, states Roger Edmondson settled in the Cooper Creek area in 1837, moving from the Asheville area of NC.In 1954, Allen Edmondson was the oldest living Fannin County native, born in 1856 and living about two miles from his birthplace.

Descendants of Robert Aaron Edmondson, born June 3, 1831, in Buncombe County, NC. He died Oct. 3, 1914, in Fannin County. He married Catherine Saunders, born about 1839 in NC and died about 1866 in Indiana.Children of this marriage:
1. Thomas Allen Edmondson, b. Dec. 18, 1856, in Fannin County, and died there Dec. 1, 1855.He married Mary Jane (Mollie) Brownn who was born May 11, 1859, in Fannin and died there Dec. 5, 1952.Her parents were Johnson Brown and Eliza Kanaday Brown.
2. Amanda Edmondson, born about 1858 in Georgia and died in 1865 in Indiana.
3. William A. Edmondson, born Sept. 7, 1860, in Fannin County and died there Dec. 12, 1949.He married (1) Georgia Ann Woody who was born Aug. 23, 1862, in Fannin and died there Aug. 25, 1901, daughter of Conrad Raburn Woody and Elizabeth Hunt Woody.He married (2) Lizzie Davis, born Sept. 11, 1874, in Georgia and died April 27, 1949.
4. Jeff Edmondson, born about 1862 in Indiana and died about 1865 in Indiana.
5. Sarah J. Edmondson, born about 1864.
6. Lewis Arch Edmondson, born July 5, 1866, in Indiana and died Nov. 27, 1953, in Ringgold, Catoosa County, Georgia.He married (1) Nettie Allen, born April 3, 1869, in Georgia, and died Aug. 14, 1939, in Chattanooga, TN.He married (2) Carrie O.

Robert Aaron Edmondson married (2) Mary Caroline Prince who was born June 1841 in Georgia and died March2, 1901, the widow of Martin Vandergriff.Her parents were Chesley Daniel Prince and Agness Barnett Prince.Of the second marriage:
1. Georgianna Edmondson, born July 27, 1869, Fannin County and died Nov. 10, 1908, in Whitfield County.She married Vasco Wheeler Searcy who was born June 19, 1863, in White, Gordon County, Georgia, and died in February, 1938, in Whitfield County.
2. Josephine Louise Edmondson, born about 1871 in Fannin County and married James Hart about 1870.
3. Joseph M. Edmondson, born July, 1875.Married Ida ________.
4. Ardonna A. (Donie) Edmondson, born October, 1877.Married Steve J. Sweeny, born about 1879.
5. Martha A. (Mattie ) Edmondson, born Dec. 1880 in Fannin County. Married George Ridley, b. about 1880.
6. Robert J. Edmondson, born about 1885 in Fannin County.
