Lillie parents were EDWIN RANDOLPH EDNEYb 1848 in Edneyville, Henderson County, NC, d 17 July 1924 and NANCY NANNIE GILLEY, daughter of Alfred Gilley and Sally Dixon, b 4 Feb 1855 in Mitchell County, TN, d 17 Aug 1935. Both Edwin and Nancy are buried in Coston Family Cemetery, Henderson County, NC. Edwin’s parents were DR. MARVILE MILLS EDNEY b 1813 in Buncombe County, (now Henderson County) NC, d after 1870 married ELIZA ELENOR LEWIS daughter of HENRY GRAVES LEWIS and MOURNING MILLS, b 1813 d before 1870. Marvile’s parents were REV. ASA EDNEYb 1772 in Pasquotank County, NC d 1 Sept 1842 married SARAH MILLS b 1775, d July 1856. Sarah was the daughter of MAJOR WILLIAM MILLSand ELINOR NELLIE MORRIS. Both Asa and Elinor are buried in Asa Family Cemetery ( formally called Townsend Family Cemetery) Henderson County, NC. The cemeteries where Asa Edney, his brother Samuel, and Major William Mills are buried are approx in a one mile triangle to each other. The town of Edneyville was named for Asa and his brother Samuel Edney. Asa was on a committee that founded Hendersonville, NC. William Mills is given credit as being the first white man in what is now Henderson County, NC. Asa’s parents were SAMUEL EDNEY (SR.) b abt 1725 probably in New Lebanon, Pasquotank County, NC d abt 1771 in Camden County, NC d married MARY ELLEN KELLY daughter of John Kelly and Elizabeth ??? b 1740 d before 1800. Samuel’s parents were ROBERT EDNEY b 1690-1710 d 1767 married ANN WRENSHER/RENCHERdaughter of Samuel Rencher, b 1690, d after 1758 in Pasquotank County, NC. These two families were very instrumental in creating what is now Henderson County, NC.
