Re: Edward Egginton - Leeds, Father of John Joseph
Pam B - I think that you can't find Edward in 1851 (on Ancestry) is because they have misread his age - the handwritten census sheet shows it to be 11 but the transcriber has taken it as 4. Below is their transcription for this family living in Dudley Port, note I have made the order of the names the same as on the scan:
NameBirth YearBirthplaceRelatiCivil Parish
Waller Eggintonabt 1803HardwayHeadTipton
Ann Eggintonabt 1811WaverleyWifeTipton
William Eggintonabt 1830TiptonSonTipton
Elizabeth Eggintonabt 1830TiptonDaughter Tipton
John Eggintonabt 1834TiptonSonTipton
Sarah Ann Eggintonabt 1837TiptonDaughter Tipton
Edward Eggintonabt 1847*TiptonSonTipton
Jane Eggintonabt 1843DurhamDaughter Tipton
Hannah Eggintonabt 1845Newcastle Upon Daughter Tipton
* should be 1840
This means that Edward's father is Walter who was born in Oldbury (not Hardway) but the scan is very faint.
I'm not sure where the family is in 1841 but Jane's birthplace gives us a clue.
All the best with this,
