Re: Family of Michael Eifert & Maria Elisabeth of Ohio
I have made some progress on the Eifert family in Germany.I initially found that our Michael had a brother named Maximillian Eifert.Max Eifert was a published author and using german websites, I have found a good deal about the next two generations.
Max was born about two years after Michael and was educated at the University of Tubingen in Baden-Wurtemburg.My mother's family always told me there was a connection to a university there.Their father was named Ernst Traugott Eifert and owned a book publishing company in Tubingen that did a lot of business with the university.Ernst spent four years living in France during the Revolution and later also taught french in Baden. They appear to have lived in Stuttgart for a short time as well.Ernst was born about 1770 and died after 1850.His wife was Wilhelmina Heinrike Pfeiffer of Tubingen, 1776-1835.
Ernst's father was named Carl Traugott Eifert. He to graduated from Tubingen University in Theology, was an author on Christian Philosophy. He was a Deacon of Magdeburg Cathedral (Dom), Sup(erintendent?) to the Naumburg-Zeitz parish, and was the Inspector of the Landesschule Pforta. At that time he lived in Naumburg, Saxony.1741-1787
Lastly I found the coat of arms they used.It is a unique symbol of a triangle and arrows on a red shield. It would appear that our Eiferts started in either Saxony or Hesse for a lengthy period of time before making their way into Baden Wurtemburg on the heels of Ernst's book making business.I'm working on a written product.Let me know if you are interested in the information.
