John Elder was the brother of Stephen Elder both sons of Jacob Elder. Jacob's willnames Stephen, Elijah, Hannah, and John Elder his children. 9th Feb. 1818, recorded in Lincoln Co KY.Jacob Elder the son of Samuel & Hannah Elder (Samuel is the Elder who died in Sevier Co TN 1811 and we have his will.)
Jacob was living in Pulaski Co KY by 1807, tax list and first marriage to Nancy Collier. He appears in Jefferson Co TN about 1809 joins the Dumplin Baptist Church (I have the minutes)Jacob left "by letter" 1811. Jacob went to Lincoln Co KY. Nancy Collier his first wife died prior to Lincoln Co. Jacob Elder married Hannah Moorehead and they had two children, John and Hannah. Jacob's also had a brother John Elder and his mother was named Hannah.Pulaski has the early marriage records.Lincoln Co. KY has the will.
I was in contact with a very nice couple and his ancestor was John Elder and Permelia Jane. Somewhere I have the names of their children, I think most of them died? I have a lot of information on Jacob, his brother William Elder,is my direct ancestor.Jacob has always challenged me. There had to be a reason he wasin KY by 1807? Never found in East Tenn. (which only means I've never found him and no one else that I know.)
I do believe that the Elder family who resided in Sevier and Jefferson Co., TN. prior to 1795 in Greene are somehow related to the Matthew Elder family, Matthew Elder died 1783 in Washington Co VA.His son Robert and family moved to Lincoln Co after his mother died (Mary Kincannon?).These men appear to be much older than Jacob's family. It is more than a co-incidence that Jacob Elder went to Lincoln about the time Robert Elder son of Matthew did.
There is a man in Lincoln Co KY and he knows more about the Elder's than we was either willing to share or would share.I have tried to find him.One small clue to tie this family together. When I sent for a copy of the will of Jacob Elder, the courthouse gave my letter to this gentleman to handle??? Thus removing the courthouse. Somewhere along this gentlemen's way is an Elder (femal? I don't know).
I will be glad to share information with you.
Hope this helps you.
