John Ellerbe married 30 Aug 1809 (1) Martha Powe (2 Oct 1794-19 Sept 1829). They had six children: Erasmus Powe (23 July 1813-6 July 1853), Alexander William (14 April 1817-7 April 1865), Amelia (17 Dec 1820-1821), Thaddeus (21 July 1822-18223), Mary Powe (25 April 1826-13 Sept 1863), and John (13 Sept 1829-27 Sept 1829). Of the six only Alexander married and had children, but he had nine. John's second wife was Mary Carolina Powe (2 Oct 1802-14 May 1832). They married 30 Jan 1831. She probably died in childbirth--but that is just a guess. John and his two oldest sons went to Dallas County, Alabama. Mary Powe was committed to the South Carolina State Hospital on 23 March 1846 with mental problems. As far as I know she stayed there until she died.
Some of the descendants have had RH problems, the mothers being RH negative. Whether that was the Powe girls' problem I do not know.
