It's worth noting that in the 18th century and earlier, Elsworth (with the single 'l') tended to be of Dutch descent, rather than English with 'll'. The differences tend to get blurred after 1800. There was an extensive Elsworth presence in NY from 1652 onwards, but research becomes more difficult after 1800, and I haven't yet come across a Michael.
Good Luck
John
