To the Honorable of the Court of Common Pleas of Cambria County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,The Petition of Paul Ellwanger, Humbly Herewith, This your petitioner is a native of Bavaria, Germany and has heretofore a Subject of Maxamillian, King of Bavaria and that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States of America, for five years, and within the State of Pennsylvania one year, and that the said Paul Ellwanger declared his intentions on 1st day of November, 1854 in the Court of Common Pleas of Blair county, as for the certificate of Record of said Court hereto attached appeared; that he will support the Constitution of the United States; and that he doth absolutelyand under ________, and forever abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, _______, and Sovereignty whatever, and particularly, to Maximillian King of Bavaria, Germany, whereof he was heretofore a subject.Your petition, herefore, prays that may be admitted to become a citizen of the United States of America.I, Paul Ellwanger do Swear, that the facts set forth in this my petition are true, and that I will support the Constitution of the United States; and that I do absolutely an entirely remove and abjure forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, p_________, and Sovereignty whatever; and particularly, do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure forever, all allegiance and fidelity to Maxmillan King of Bavaria, Germany, whereof I was heretofore a subject.

Mr. Martin Foster and Francis Barberick, Citizens of the United States and commonwealth of Pennsylvania, do swear that the Petitioner Paul Ellwanger, has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States of America five years, and within the State of Pennsylvania one year: that is to say he the said Paul Ellwanger resides in Blair County about one year; and in Cantron County Pennsylvania about four years, of which places are within and under the Constitution of the United States, and that during his residence with in the United States he has behaved as a man of good Moral Character, all_____ to the Constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same.
