Hi Jennifer,
Sorry I'm not you're age, in fact many years older, but I do have a daughter, Jacqueline, who will be eighteen in December, maybe I'll ask her to contact you.
I am still researching my line, which come from Crediton in Devon, but some moved to Canada and then, perhaps to USA. Wish I was in Florida myself.
As far as I have found the name Elston is of Saxon origin, in other words, originating in Europe, likely Germany. There are several meanings, but the one that comes up the most is Stone, Everlasting or Elf.
From what I can gather, the first settlers bearing the name, which has many variations, for example Ethelstone, were minnowers, or farmers. My particular line were connected to the railway. My grandfather was a Carpenter, his father a Wheelwright. But my great great grandfather was in the shoe/leather trade, as was his father before him. At least I think this is so. I am not sure that my research is 100 per cent accurate as yet.
If you can find out more about your ancestors, even the most recent ones, i.e, grandparents, great grandparents, perhaps I or someone else on the net can be of some help.
Good luck anyway.
Sue Ashton (nee Elston)
