Burrett/Elvin connection
I am descended from the Borrett's (Borett's/Bonett's) who lived in the Depwade area (Fritton/Hempnall) in the 1800's.
My Great-Grandfather "John Borrett" reportedly married an "Ann Elvin" around 1863.However, in trying to trace Ann's ancestry I have run into some snags. I first thought that she was born on Aug.12,1842 in North Collingham, Nottingham, parents John Elvin and Lucy (nee Ennell), but now think that "Ann" was in fact Mary Ann Elvin born in Hempnall on March 6, 1839 to Joseph and Phebe Elvin. (At least that's what her birth Certificate says. But other research tells me that Joseph's wife was Maria James (from Pulham, Norfolk, who died in Depwade District 3rdQ, 1852).The Joseph I refer to is the one born around 1802 who is listed in the 1881 census as being 79. a widower, living in Hempnall. So my question, at this time, is, who was Joseph Elvin's wife, was it "Phebe" or "Maria" ?Can anyone help?Perhaps he was a Mormon and had two wives. Just joking.Thanks.
