David,
I have just come across this site and have been trying to trace my ancestry back fror some time now.
I have managed to get back as far as the 1830's and pre the 1851 census our name was Elyard.
Henery Elyard married Mary Milner (b 1808 in Weaverthorpe) in 1837 at Hunmanby in East Yorkshire. The family still mainly lives in Beverley, East Yorks. John Bielby Helyard, the son (b 1847), moved there in about 1867 to lead bricks from the railway station for the building of the Army barracks.
Henery also had a daughter and although she never married she did have a son. I beleive from my father's information she moved to Hull and certainly there used to be Helyard's in the telephone directory which were not John's decendants
I have never been able to track Henery back pre his marriage although I do know their was a family of Elyard's which came from Driffield which is only 15 or so mile away.
I wonder I we have any links?
Dave Helyard
