Emerson, James (1), also known as James Empson or Emson, was in Calvert Co., Md., in 1686 as the husb. of Rebecca, wid. of John Darnall; Emerson was exec. and legatee of William Hurbutt in latter's will of 26 Jan. 1669; moved to Balto. Co. bt Nov. 1703 when Thomas Thurston, s. of late Col. Thomas Thurston, sold 500 a. Elberton to James "Empson of Cal. Co.;" d/St. in St. George's Par., leaving a will, 5 Jan 1707/8 - 31 Jan 1707/8, named his w. Rebecca as extx., and ch. James (not yet 17), Eliza, Rebecca, and Anne; his est. was admin. 9 Oct. 1710 by extx. Rebecca now w. of James Cobb; Rebecca later m. John Hawkins, Sr.; dec. left iss.: James, not yet 16 in 1707; Eliza, m. 1st Mark Whitaker on 13 Feb. 1717, and 2nd on 6 Oct. 1729 Francis Taylor; Rebecca, b. 12 March 1701 in Calvert Co., m.
