Re: Ems Family Germany to Indiana 1800 to
Ruth, have reviewed data you have collected pertaining to the following line:
William, John, Frederick, Johann
William married Helen Frances Turner of Lafayette, Indiana. They had three children:William Peter, Jr., Dorothy Helen, and Betty Lou.William Peter, Sr., deceased in Indianapolis; William Peter, Jr. deceased in Indianapolis; Helen Frances deceased in Indianapolis.
Dorothy Helen married Michael DeCosta of Maui, Hawaii, and they presently reside in Riverside, Ca.They have 6 children, 5 sons and 1 daughter.
Bertha Ems (John, Frederick, Johann) married Frank Jolissaint and they had 6 or 7 daughters.Bertha and Frank as well as two daughters, Ann and Frances or Mary Frances are deceased. They died in southern Indiana. One of twin daughters lives in Georgetown, Indiana.Marilyn Ehlers.I have not done it yet, but she can be contacted to develop birth dates, death dates, etc.
Jacob Ems (John, Frederick, Johann) married a Lillian--both are deceased. They had one child:Lawrence.Lawrence married Ann and they had three children:William, Tammy and one died at birth. They live in New Salisbury, Indiana.
Lawrence still has the old family farm, inherited the farm Jacob and Lillian had and assume they still have it.The farm was over 100 years old and had been in the Ems' family for over 100 years.William has a farm of his own.He is married and has 2 stepdaughters.Tammy has never married and works for the Census Bureau in Corydon.
Your records indicate Frederick came to U.S. via New Orleans.Records I found show Frederick, John, and Frank (Francis) came over together on the Sardinia in 1950--believe it landed in New York or on the East Coast. The boys were listed inaccurately as "Aims".
Now for Joseph. He was in southern Indiana before the 3 boys arrived. He was married, had his family.I never found anything to verify his connection to the 3 boys but believed there had to be some connection. He was older and
assumed he was related to the father of Frederick, i.e., brother?? Or a cousin.
Have never found records to show what happened to Walter (John, Frederick, Johann).Remember that he had been in World War I and had been wounded.
Records indicated an F. Ems and child arrived at New Orleans.I never found verification of who they were.Records did show a group of Ems in Alabama, an Adam Ems, and wondered if there was a connection with the two who arrived via New Orleans.
