Do you know what happened to this James after he retired from WAR?I do know that our James N. was in Starrville, Smith Cnty, TX and had a daughter in 1869 there.I then find him 1880 inGaines, Cooke Cnty, TX 1880 census.He died here in Dallas, TX.It is is thought he is the James N. English in Co. E, Confederate Cavalry of GA.Can you give me any more information?

I ask because our James has some mystery about him.1.He didn't return to his wife Martha after the war.I suspect that Martha Lowrey/Louri/Lurry came on to TX with her family after James let her believe he was dead.Then he reappeared on her doorstep many years later (I guess between 1863 and 1868, she didn't hear from him and believed him to be dead).Unsure whether she was here in TX or still in GA, but suspect she may have been here.When he appeared at her door, my grandmother said she had to be put to bed for a week.

2. We know of his marriage to Martha Lowrey/Lourie/Lurry of GA and to Stella Vick in TX.Yet on 1910 census of Dallas Cnty, TX, he stated he had been married 3 times.All the children we know of are by Martha?????
