Ennis in Wayne Co, NY
I have, for a long time, known my g/g/g grandmother to be Lucy Ennis (ca.1847-ca.1879), the first wife of Willard Scott Milliman. What has never helped me in my research on her is the fact she had died by the time of the 1880 Census, as Willard is married to a Mary E. McAllister at that time. What I could never find is where she was born, nor any information on her parents, Joseph Ennis and Lucy Snyder. Recently, after much tedious work in Wayne Co, NY records, I found Joseph Ennis born 7 January 1807 (somewhere in NJ, according to census) and living in 1880 in Macedon, NY, assuming this IS the right Joseph. I also found the mother as Lucy Ann Snyder (28 April 1816, Montgomery Co, NY-living 1880), the daughter of a George and Elisabeth Snyder. Seems to fit, but my Lucy Ennis appears as Mary Ennis instead...are these two the same?
If this Joseph and Lucy Snyder Ennis are the parents, I have found only one sibling, Lucinda. I doubt it could be my Lucy because this Lucinda was living with her parents in the 1880 census and, according to her age given, would have been born in 1856. My Lucy Ennis was married in 1863 and had her first child in 1865, so I highly doubt Lucy and Lucinda are the same. But, as I have said, I found "Mary Ennis" instead of "Lucy Ennis"...can anyone clear this for me? Are there any other siblings?
If this sounds really, really confusing, it's because it is...this has been the better part of years of research for me, and unfortunately, my family does come from Wayne Co, and I run across this problem all the time in that area.
If anyone could help me clear the confusion, it'd be greatly appreciated!!
