My grandfather Clift M. Epps grew up on 36 acres along Epps Mill Road just east of Christiana in Rutherford Co. Tenn. His father Lawrence who my dad and I are named for ran the grist mill. The old mill pond is almost filled in with silt and weeds but it is still their. Nothing remains of the mill except there is still a rock wall along the Middle Fork of Stones River. My uncle Clift Moore Jr. took the old mill stone but it is lost now. Lawrence bought a half interest for $800 from a W. A. Johnson in Mar 1872 shortly after he married Mary Elizabeth Smith in Dec 1871. A little south of this place there is a another Epps Road that is still called that which leads to Bell Buckle in Bedford Co. On the north side of this road is a chain of hills that are still known as The Epps Hills and are marked as such on topographic maps. I am reasonably certain this road and hills get their name from you ancestors Daniel and Edward. My great grandfather Lawrence was the son James Craton from Lincoln Co. a little north of Fayetteville. I always wondered why he left the Lincoln Co. area where his family had owned landsince as early as 1811 and moved to Rutherford Co. I speculated it was because their was some connection to your Epps' but have not proved this. Daniel would have been long gone to Missouri by the time my relative came to the area. Were their any of Daniel's descendants that remained in this area after Daniel left?
