First of all you start with yourself. You get a set of family group sheets and then you start with your own information and then go to your parents and ask them questions about them and their families. write everything down on paper even if the time it dont seem important. Like family stories. Where they came from if there is still any relatives there. Then you get as much as you can from them about their grandparents, parents etc.then you start online or going to the libraries. The Mormons have a wealth of information as well as the regular libraries. When I started 14 years ago doing genealogy we only had the librarys. There are GREAT online sources not. This one is a good on and Ancestry.comFamily search. com. is the mormon site. Then you just start putting piece by piece together. It is a long process and alot of work but it can be done. But you have to start with you first and getting all the information from living relatives. THAT IS IMPORTANT.Alot of grandparents and gr grandparents wrote massive amounts of information in family bibles. I have found alot from there and pictures tell alot. You can usually flip them over and there is something penciled on them. There are alot of great books out there to get started on genealogy. At the Family History libraries they used to givev you pamplets on how to get started on your genealogy. If you would like I will look around here and see if I have one and send it to you. if you will email me your address I will try to find it. I hope this helped. CHRIS EPPS WHEELER
