Re: Phetoma D. Epps m.John Edward Hughes
Sorry, I don't know where she got the name, might be from an Aunt or other relative.I believethat I am descended from Pleasant Epps, Sr.'s first marriage, which no one seems to know who his first wife was, even though he had 3 or 4 children by his first wife, including Sarah, Marvel or Marvil, and ?I believe that my GGGGranddaddy, Larey Epps, who married Elizabeth Craton, born in Va., in Jan. 1807 in Wilson Co., TN. and was listed as the only Epps Headright on the 1820 Lincoln Co.,TN. Census and was born somewhere in N.C. in 1782 is a son of Pleasant Epps, Sr's first marriage also. Larey named one of his sons Pleasant M. Epps, and I believe that the M. stands for Marvel. Larey also named another of his sons, Hugh Montgomery Craton Epps, my GGGranddaddy. There was a very wealthy and famous man in Montgomery Co.,N.C. by the name of Hugh Montgomery. Pleasant Epps,Sr. and Pleasant Epps,Jr. both lived in that county and was later in Davidson Co.,N.C., I believe because the county lines was changed a few years later. Thanks, Steve Epps, Thomaston, GA.
