Hi!
Most likely it was Rev. William Beckton Epps (b. 5 Feb. 1824 TN -d. 22 Nov. 1898 MO).He was a Missionary Baptist minister.He married 27 Feb. 1848 Sidney Ann Estes (b. 15 Mar. 1826 -d. 6 Mar. 1913 CA).
He was the son of Eli Epps (b. 5 May 1803 NC d. 28 Nov. 1876 Green Co., MO)He married 2 Jan. 1823 Rutherford Co., TN - Rebecca Miller (b. 25 Sept. 1805 -d. 21 Mar. 1870).They came to MO in 1840's.Their Uncle Daniel Epps had came to Butler Co., MO ca. 1819.
His parentswere Edward Epps & Rebecca Carter of Montogmery Co., NC.They all are descendants of Francis Epes I of Petersburg/ City Point, VA.The Family Home is in the National Park Service.Thomas Jefferson's wife was a grandchild of Francis Epes III or IV.
On this Epps site there are other references to Rev. William Beckton Epps and other Epps of Greene & Pope Co., MO.Even asking for help identifying people in pictures.
Robert
