Hi!
We have no Estes information.
We belong to Daniel Epps (b. 1780/81 Montogmery Co., NC -d. 1856 Butler Co., MO); youngest son William Carroll Epps (b. 1828 Wayne Co., MO -d. 1872? Butler Co., MO).William Riley Epps (b. 1863 Butler Co., MO -d. 1930 Stone Co., MO).
In the 1960's We met Wooton & Theordore Epes in Helena, AR. Their ancestor came to Helena, AR ca. 1900 as the Episcopal minister from VA.Daniel Epps's father, Daniel had left VA ca. 1770.
The Epes Family got into the lumbering business in Phillips Co., AR. They became well to do planters and owned a Hardware and Seed Store. It was one of those great places to shop; clean beyond belief but with all those great smells. The Epes were always thrilled to see Robert and would talk and talk to him.
To be truthful with you the Family resemblance was so great that the second day we lived in Helena, AR a total stranger on the street spoke to Robert and started talking as if he knew him.Robert said,"Excuse me who do you think I am!"He replied, "Your Jim Epes!"
The Epes enformed Robert that he would be a member of their Family. They invited us to go Petersburg/City Point, VA to attend a meeting of the Society of the Descendants of Francis Epes I and visit the Epes Home at City Point, VA; that the National Park Service now owns. They also were proud to tell us that Thomas Jefferson wife was an Epes Granddaugther and that Jefferson's daughter "Maria" was married to John Epes.
We got serious about Epps genealogy in 1982.The contact with the Epes of Helena, AR gave us a different starting view point than maybe some working on the Epes, Eppes, Eps, Epps genealogy. At the same time we started working on the Family; the Rev. Jesse D. Epps's of Clearwater, FL celebrated being married 65 years. It made the papers etc.So we went to pay Jesse a visit. He had updated the History of Edwards Epps (b. 1778 Montogmery, NC -d. 1813/4 Rutherford Co., TN) Family in 1975 that his Grandpa Newton Carter Epps of Pomona, MO had done in 1913.Newton's account was full of references to Daniel Epps of Butler Co., MO.We then did USA Census work to Jesse's update to submit it for the Descendants of Francis Epes I of VA.
We have also worked on the Family of Lawrence Epps (b. 1782 NC -d. 20 June 1861 Lincoln Co., TN) since the 1980's.Why because Tom Epps (b. 5 Oct. 1903 Miami, OK -d. 2 May 1984 Taney Co., MO) and Frank Epps (b. 1899 Stone Co., MO -d. 1954 Taney Co., MO)were such great "street corner" cousins and could never figure out how they were related.Tom was mayor of Branson, MO in the 1950's and owned the Western Auto.Frank worked for MO Highway Dept.most every Saturday Frank visited with Tom and his wife, Della at the store. The Family resemblance is uncanny.
Working on the Epps has been great fun!
