Thanks for feed back. My family never mentioned the middle name or initial of my great grandfather Lawrence Epps my great grandfather. His wife Mary Elizabeth Smith and he were married in Dec 1 1871. The had the following family: Charlie Lawrence Epps, b. Oct 1881; Ethie Greaves Epps, b. bet. July and Dec. 1882;Clift Moore Epps Sr.b. June 29 1885; and James Creighton Epps, b. abat. 1894. Clift Moore was my grandfather. There was certainly time for Lawrence to have married a Mary M. or J. Mason in Nov. 1866 before he later married Mary Elizabeth. The Lincoln Co. 1870 census says a L.F.Epps married a Mary J. Mason and they were both 28 at that time. It also says they had one child a 3 month old son named John W. or M. (can't read microfilm very well on initial). The census seems to indicate that Lawrence birth is about the same year as my g grandfather who was born in Dec 2 1842. I have also found a Lawrence Epps on the Bedford County 1880 census who is 37, wife Mary 31, both born in Alabama. issue Fannie 6, Alice 4, James 2. Note that he is also born very near the same date as my g granddad. Is this the same person as the L. F. Epps on the 1870 Lincoln census. If so where is the baby John that was mentioned. This Lawrence can't be the same as my great grandfather since his daughter Fannie would have been born abt. 1874 and the others also would have been born when my g grandfather was married to Mary Elizabeth Smith. I think this Lawrence had to be a cousin of the Lawrence who married my Mary E. Smith. If my g grandfather had a family with Mary Mason before he had the four kids with a second wife I certainly think these kids my g uncles would have mentioned they had some half brothers or sisters, but there is only silence on this issue in our family. Also a son of Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Clift Moore my grandfather attended Webb School a prep school atBell Buckle Tenn.
which was near his home in the Christiana area. On the school roles of 1905 is also the name Lawrence Epps who had the same PO. of Christiana as my grandfather. I believe this is a cousin who lived near grandfather and he may have been the son of the Lawrence who married Mary Mason. Too many Lawrences to sort out!!
I assume from your messages on the forum you are from Missouri. My uncle Clift Moore Epps Jr. told me back in the 1970's that some of our line moved to Missouri, but unfortunately I didn't record the names or the lineage. Does you line connect into the elusive Larey or Lawrence and Elizabeth Craton. If so, how?
There are a father and son Robert Epps on the Bedford Co. Tenn. census. Are you connected to them. I have not been able to connect them into my charts but I am fairly certain they should since they lived very near where Lawrence my g grandfather lived. Since I have not been doing this research but for a little over a year could you mention who you have found to be the best expert on the Epps of Tenn. I have already been talking to Chris, are their others that have been at it a long time.

Thanks again for your message and I hope to be of help to all you Epps researchers in the future. We have an excellent genealogy library in Houston especially well stocked on Tenn.
