Ralf,
I found a George and Mary Erbes in a Photocopy of the 1870 US censuswhere his age is "22" [abt.1848] and born in "Prussia."Mary is "20" [abt.1850] and born in "Bohemia"
In the LDS transcribed 1880 US census my George is listed as "38" [abt.1842] and born in "H. Darnstadt" while his wife Mary is "31" [abt.1849] and born in "PA" [Pennsylvania].
Would you agree with me that there seems to be two George and Mary Erbes' born very near the same time, but in very different locations? who ended up only 250 KM apart! Remember how close that is in the sparse US. Any idea of the accuracy of the transcribed 1880 US census? It is very handy in that form as long as the information is correct.
I have to go with the 1880 [and H. Darnstadt] because the children match (at least two) so far as I know.
Thanks for pointing out that H. Darnstadt is/was not in Prussia.
