David, b. 1815/16 WV, > IL by 1840 or 45

By genealogy.com user December 07, 1999 at 04:48:28

My GGG grandfather was David ERLEWINE, who was born in WV in 1815/16, according to an 1880 Jo Daviess Co., IL census. He had moved to Illinois by 1845, since he's mentioned as one of the Directors of the first school in Ward's Grove, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois.

He married a widow, Mary Sibley PARTRIDGE TYRRELL, and had one daughter, Mary (b. 6 Oct. 1864).He may have been married before, since I found a Deborah ERLEWINE buried in a cemetery right near this area, in the same township (also this is NOT a common name in this county).

I have a death date from another researcher--14 Sep. 1892--but I have no idea where David is buried. He is not buried with his wife, Mary--oddly enough, she is buried with her first husband (in the Morseville Cemetery in Ward's Grove Township, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois).

According to the census info, David's parents were born in Virginia. As to his birthplace, WV wasn't even a state until 1863, so I assume it means he was born in a place that BECAME West Virginia.

His daughter, Mary ERLEWINE, married Thomas STARR (b. 21 Jan. 1864 in Ewhurst, East Sussex, England), and they had 11 children. If there are any STARR/ERLEWINE researchers out there, please email me!I'm hoping to find out anything I can about David ERLEWINE's origins: more exact location, parents, etc. Thanks, and welcome to the Forum!
