Sir Henry Erskine of Alva (d. 1765) and Andrew Erskine of Kellie (d. 1793)

I am trying to get a hang of some connections mentioned by James Boswell in his London Journal. One connection that bothers me somewhat, is Boswells mention of Lt-Gen. Sir Henry Erskine, 5th Baronet of Alva (d. 1765) being a cousin of (Captain) Thomas Andrew Erskine (d. 1793) of the Kellie branch of the Erskines. As far as I can make out, Sir Henry and and Captain Andrew are only very distantly related, whereas Boswell and Sir Henry are sharing the same great-grandparents (Charles Erskine (d. 1663) and Mary Hope (b. 1629)).

Any thoughts?
