Thanks to the Virginia GenWeb, I recently received quite helpful information from one of the Camden descendents.Sarah (Sallie) Camden's first husband was Joseph Shields of both Nelson and Rockbridge counties in Virginia.Their son, John Camden Shields, is my husband's great-great grandfather. There were other children to the union of Sallie Camden and Joseph Shields.Following his early death, she apparently married Joseph Eskew.I'm just starting my search for their children and was really only positive of a son, Wyatt J. Eskew, born 1829 in Rockbridge County.I feel that they also had a daughter, Mary E. Eskew, who is listed on the 1850 VA census as age 18, and living with our John C. Shields (probably her half brother) in Lynchburg where he was editor of the "Lynchburg Virginian."The other noteworthy thing I had picked up was that the 1850 census had the Eskews living in Rockbridge County next to John Shields and his wife Parmelia (Camden) Shields. It is my belief that this John Shields is the brother of Sallie's first husband Joseph Shields.I hope this helps someone so we can figure out how to put these people in order.
