Von Essen, George A., a Celebration of Life service will be held for George A. Von Essen, 71, who passed away on November 23, 2009. He had been in declining health for some time. He is survived by his wife Alice; two sons, Morgan (Alexandra) and John. He had a special love for his four grandchildren, Victoria, Olivia, Alexander, and Micaela. George was a long time resident of South Florida, having come with his family to Ft. Lauderdale in 1948. His family owned Von Essen's Drug stores, then located on Route A-1-A at Las Olas, and on Sunrise Boulevard opposite the Sunrise Shopping Center. George graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1956, where he was a member of the high school swimming team. His avocation and love was the antique car hobby. He owned many fine cars over the years, many of which were vintage Cadillacs. He belonged to several old car clubs, and ascended to President of the Ft. Lauderdale Region, AACA, in 1973. George loved his family, his country and his old cars, in that order. The Memorial Celebration will be held on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2009. Due to limited seating RSVP is required. Please call 561-641-9162.
