Re: Etches from Essex, Notts and Dby
Wow! Three years to get a second message on the Etches forum. I'm only indirectly an Etches...my great grandfather changed his surname to Etches. His grandfather's sister had married a John Etches, as I recollect, and my great-grandfather's father had subsequently been given "Etches" as a middle name. There was some connection with Notts, I believe, in the Etches family I'm (tenuously) connected to. You can probably see the details on my family tree file at GenCircles (www.gencircles.com -- just search for Etches and you should find my file quickly (it's called "ACME").
But there were actually a lot of Etches' in Yorkshire, Notts, Derbyshire, etc.--even though today it seems like a rather rare name--so it's unlikely there's any connection. If you haven't looked, the ancestry.com message board has a lot more in its Etches forum.
