I am also searching for any documentation for this Evans man. I did have the Tennessee State Archives do a search for a land grant in their index for a Stokely Evans before 1840. They found nothing and they said they checked all spelling for 1st and last name.

I have posted on rootsweb Evans board the question of: Where did everyone get the "Jr." for Stokely D. Evans? I have not found any evidence that he was a Jr.

My husband descend from Stokely D. son William. I haven't researched this Evans line for several years. Now back at it and haven't found anyone actively working on it but your post. Would love to discuss this line with you.
