The Eberhard clan of the Milford Twp. areas of Bucks and Northampton Counties, PA came from Jegenstorf, Switzerland.
Joseph Eberhard's emigration passport document appears typed in Pennsylvania German Pioneers book by Stassburger and Hinke. This document was a pastoral letter handwritten in May 1727.It says Joseph Eberhard was from Jeagersdorf, Switzerland.
This is incorrect - likely a transcription error or translation error. The village was Jegenstorf, Bern Canton, Switzerland.
No Jaegersdorf existed in Switzerland.I made this connection to Jegenstorf this past week.
I have e-mailed the pastor there and he replied back that an old Eberhard family did live there. One was a Elder in the church long ago.The church is 500 years old today!Pastor says many Eberhards and Aeberhards still live in community.Records for church are now in Bern and LDS most likely has them on film.
Many Pennsylvania Eberhards, Everharts descend from this group today including the Everharts in Davidson County, NC.Matching Y-DNA tests connect this group to the Pennsylvania Group.
