Martha Faircloth of North Carolina
I am seeking information about my maternal great grandmother Martha Faircloth (b. abt. 1842 d. ?). The US Census of 1880 for Des Moines, Iowa lists her as the wife of Thomas Prosser and the mother of Minnie (age 14), Levi (age 11) and my grandmother Ella (age 3). The census also lists her place of birth as North Carolina. So far, the only age-appropriate Martha Faircloth in North Carolina I've found is listed in the US Census for 1860 for Bladen County, NC (White Oak Post Office) where she is part of the household of Seth Faircloth (age 39) and William (age 7), Archibald (age 5) and Rosannah (age 1?). Faircloths appear in nearby locations in the White Oak area including Isaiah and Letta (age 35 & 36) and their children Bias (?), John J., James, Mary M. Oliver, Alexander, Julius, and Katie, as well as, Thomas (?) and Rebecca (age 52 & 45) and their children Gerusha (?), Thomas, Sarah S., Lucy, David, B. F. and Rebecca. My sense is that proximity suggests close relationships between all these folks, but I don't know anything about them or Martha prior to her coming to Des Moines (I'm assuming she went there rather than Thomas Prosser finding her in NC). Any help would be appreciated. Dave
