Death of Mrs. J. V. Faith ~ Lorain County, Ohio ~ 1875
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Saturday, February 6, l875
Last Saturday we received a newspaper printed in Elyria, Ohio, confirming the sad report of the death of MRS. J.V. FAITH. It appears from the article on the subject, that MRS. FAITH was not apparently in the best of health, and for some time had been in the habit of taking small quantities of a drug known as hydrate of chloral, and that a short time before her death she sent to town, a couple of miles distant, and obtained a fresh supply. Soon afterwards the word arrived that she had poisoned herself by taking an overdose of the fatal drug. Medical assistance was called in, but it was too late, and she died soon after taking the poison. Her little child, five years old, had also taken some of it, but by prompt efforts it was saved. The whole affair seems shrouded in mystery, and it is not improbable that she committed suicide.
