I know this is an older posting and I hope I'm not duplicating something I wrote a year ago . . . I don't think I've ever come to this site before so hopefully not.
George and Susanna Fake/Feg/Faike etc . . . were long-time members of Canadochly Union Church (Now Canadochly Evangelical and Reformed Church) in Lower Windsor Township, York County. Many members of the Fake family were and are buried in their rather large cemetary. Unfortunately, many of the early markers are missing, damaged or illegible.
I have record of five children for this couple and all but one were baptized at Canadochly. The other was baptized at Quickels Union during the Lutheran services. At least one of their children, my ancestor Peter (born 28 Dec 1813 died 3 Aug 1887) is buried in this cemetary.
The thing about York County is that people tended to stay where they were. A habit that continues with most of the old families here today. If your parents attended a church, that's likely where you attended as an adult and where you were likely to attend from marriage, through christenings to the grave . . . unless you moved to . . . I don't know . . . Illinois.
Recognizing that people will do what people will do for a myriad of reasons, today or a hundred years ago, I've found that it's a safe hypothisis that people are buried where they attended church.
The York County Historical Society (now called the York County Heritage Trust) has a rather complete listing of tombstone information. I've only ever known of two cemetaries that were missed and they were small family plots that had fallen into neglect. The information was gathered in the 1930s so there is actually information there that is no longer available as stones have been vandalized and weathered beyond readability in the intervening 60 years.
There is no listing for George's or Susanna's death or burial in any record in the collection at the Society. Susanna disappears from the Census records in 1850 and George in 1870.
George and Susanna is the end of my provable line, by the way. Anyone who has information that can link this line to the older Fake/Veg/etc families will be doing several hundred York COunty Fakes a huge service as we're ALL stuck at this couple.
Margaret's information in her reply to Deborah was intriguing but there are several bits that conflict with records I've found here. I'm open to any suggestions though and happy to help anyone I can.
