JOHN HARTSOOK was born in Galia Co., Ohio, September 7, l82l, and died at the home of his son, WILLIAM, in Des Moines, Iowa, September 22, l902, thus being 8l years and l3 days of age.At the age of 23 in his native State, he was united in marriage to MARY A. FARNES and about six years later with his family, moved to Illinois, where they lived until the latter part of l855, then moved to Iowa where they lived until ten years later they then removed to Mercer County, Mo., where he continuously resided until about four years ago, when his companion, who had borne the heat and burden of the day with him, was called up yonder, her race having been well run. Then he made his home with his children.
Ten children, two girls and eight boys, had come to brighten and bless this couple through life, all of whom survive except a daughter and a son who have gone on before. Thus ends the career of one of the fathers in Israel.Having been an active member of the M.E. Church for over fifty years, his work for the Master has been much, both in prayer and deeds, so that he is not dead but sleepeth; his words will live forever.
The body was brought here the following day and taken in charge by friends and taken today to Union School House and the funeral preached by the Pastor, Rev. Knoll, and then taken to Union Cemetery near by, where it was laid to rest by the side of his departed companion.Peace be still.
