Origin of FAWCUS? PA>MD>NC>IN familiar?
I've just been going over the new master surname list to see if there were any variant spellings of my maiden name: FISCUS.I hardly ever see a name ending in "cus," so I wondered if it could possibly be a variant.FISCUS is a Latin word for the personal treasury of the Caesar of Rome.My immigrant ancestor, Frederick FISCUS, came from an area of Germany near Frankfurt in 1743.The FISCUS group either went from PA>MD>NC>IN>IO, or from PA>western PA>OH/WV>?(not my line). If you see any possible connections between FAWCUS and FISCUS, please contact me.Thank you.
