In Virginia 1770's, related to Ford/Foard

By Deborah Shelton-Wood August 20, 2007 at 11:04:58

Hello:

I am seeking any Featherstone (and alternate spellings) who were related to any Ford/Foard families in MD, NC or VA.

Since I am related to Joseph Reynolds who married Nancy Ford and I'm also related to a family of Ford/Foard who lived in Pittylvania Co VA, I was very interested to find a man named Featherston Foard in the 1810 images of Tax Records in Pittsylvania County.

To the best of my knowledge, this Featherston Ford has not been mentioned on the various lists before and I can hardly find anything on him on the internet at all. And of course I am thinking that perhaps he was named for his mother's maiden surname or a grandmother.

It seems very likely that he would be the father or brother of Nancy Ford who married in 1803 to Joseph Reynolds.Joseph and Nancy did have a son named Featherson Ford Reynolds born abt 1818, Pittsyl. Co VA.Featherston was one of at least 10 children.

I'm hoping to enlist the help of all who are interested in learning more about this Featherston Ford in the 1810 tax list.

I see that the spelling of the name Featherson has been in dispute for years.Alternate spellings are of course, Fetherston, Featherstone (like the surname) and Fetherstone.

I would have assumed Featherston to have been Nancy's father, but the soen named for him is the 6th son born to Joseph and Nancy and I would think a son named for her father might be one of the earlier sons, perhaps Berryman.
So I consider that Featherston Ford might be Nancy's brother.
