Based on the town name you had in your message (Emesburen) I started searching the internet and hit paydirt.Check out the site
http://www.lesum.de/juling/emsblist.htmhttp://www.lesum.de/juling/emsblist.htm
which is a database of family names from Emsburen (note spelling). There are 174 people with the surname Fehring in the database.A quick search did not turn up any proper matches, but please examine the record carefully for Bernhard Lukas Fehring, born 25 Jan 1788.I believe he is the Lukas Fehring who is our common ancestor. His daughter, Euphemia Maria b. 22 Dec 1813 is my ancestor, and his son, Gerhard Heinrich b. 1 April 1825 is likely your ancestor.Note that the record indicates that they went to the US. in 1843.
If this interpretation is correct, there are two Fehring brothers, Wilhelm and Bernhard, (note I am using second names, as it appears they did) who also went to the US who are unaccounted for.
Also note that this database contains information to trace the Fehring family name (in Emsburen) back into the mid 1600's.Thank you, Cindi, for giving me the key.I am convinced these are my ancestors.
